Lydia Mancuso, an odd name for an African American woman in the 1970's, was beginning a new life for herself in the Air Force. After leaving the nuns from a small parish in Las Vegas, she had a rough childhood. Once she went into the state system of foster care, her life became a nightmare. On the bus ride to the base, she began the first entry in her diary. It was the beginning of her new life including college with her future looking much better. With full attention to her writing, she didn't notice the young man taking a special interest in her. His name was Thomas Blake, a handsome young man with amber eyes. From the moment he first saw her she captured his attention with her warm smile. The two became acquainted during basic training learning more about each other with each passing day. Lydia wanted to be a journalist while Thomas wanted to be an airplane mechanic. Although they strived for different goals, they found commonality falling in love. After graduating from basic training, Lydia was transferred to her next duty assignment in Arizona; while Thomas goes back home to South Carolina for a brief stay before being sent to his post in California. During his visit Glenda, a naive young woman reminds Thomas of a promise he made her to get married. She had trusted him with her virginity, taking him at his word. Glenda was determined he kept his promise to her, because she was spoiled for another man. Thomas made the promise in the heat of passion; before leaving for basic training. It had been long forgotten after meeting Lydia. What would he do Should he keep his promise or follow his heart With his choice, someone's heart would be broken and three lives would be changed forever.
